Peter believes in giving back and participates in several charitable events and community service activities throughout the year, including volunteering at a local food pantry. As a 15-year plus EMT trained volunteer, Peter's service extended beyond Westchester County to Ground Zero in 2001.
This commitment to service is consistent with Unified Retirement Planning Group's core values - his entire URPG team will be dedicating their time to several community service events each year - see examples below.
1st Annual Track Scholarship presented by Peter Gallagher
Peter Gallagher presented the first annual URPG track & field scholarship at a recent Briarcliff High School awards ceremony to a deserving female and male senior athlete. The scholarship honored the recently retired coach of the track & field and cross country programs at BHS, Sean Ryan. The award name, "Hard Work Equals Results", comes from a common saying of Coach Ryan's during his experience in track and cross country as well as his successful business career.
Both awards included a certificate of recognition and a $500 donation to each athlete from URPG. Peter looks forward to recognizing future generations of elite athletes from the Briarcliff High School track & field and cross country programs.
We Shred - Earth Day!
To celebrate Earth Day, URPG sponsored a paper shredding event, conveniently scheduled after tax time and the start of spring cleaning. Many friends and family of URPG gathered to shred their unwanted bills and statements confidentially during an on-site shredding event at Unified Retirement Planning Group.
Also a professional organizer was present to provide organizing tips. Sponsors, Peter Gallagher and Andrea from Organizing Wisdom pictured below.
Ossining Food Pantry
Peter Gallagher and members of Unified Retirement Planning Group give-back by volunteering their time every week to provide non-perishable food and pantry items to members of the community in-need.
Their volunteer activities range from setting-up a pantry counter of food & goods, calculating financial need, and delivering food to the home-bound and community centers.
In the spirit of giving, URPG accepted new & unwrapped toys, books and crafts for children ages newborn to 18 years for the Children's Heart Foundation Annual Toy Drive.
The toys were delivered to several New York area hospitals, including Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NY Presbyterian and Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. The gifts brought joy for children who were hospitalized during the holiday season. Many thanks to the URPG friends and family for your continued generosity!
Hillside Food Outreach
The annual “A Westchester Christmas” concert in Rye, NY, performed by many professional musicians raises funds for Hillside Food Outreach. This local charity delivers food on a monthly basis to more than 2,000 housebound people living at or below the poverty level. They also promote youth involvement enlisting participation in monthly “Packing Nights”. Peter Gallagher, attended with his wife, and office manager Becky Burfeind and family. Peter made a donation on behalf of his firm Unified Retirement Planning Group, located in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
Congenital Heart Walk
Becky and Jacqui from the URPG Team and family participated in the Congenital Heart Walk in New York City. The walk raised over $78,000 for a great cause. The Congenital Heart Walk is the only national event dedicated to fight congenital heart disease in collaboration with the Children's Heart Foundation (CHF) and the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA). Congratulations to Team Amanda!
Charity Dinner to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Peter Gallagher of Unified Retirement Planning Group (URPG), along with his team and their spouses, attended a charity dinner to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. URPG’s donation of $600 will go toward funding research for a cure for blood cancers.
In addition to appetizers, the 13-course authentic Chinese banquet was prepared by the event organizer, Darryl Moy, and was enjoyed by all in attendance. This event is one part of the fundraising drive Team in Training: Cooking & Climbing 4 a Cure, which will culminate with a climb of Yosemite Falls.
New York Blood Center blood drive
In honor of American Heart Month, and Congenital Heart Disease Week, Advisor Peter Gallagher along with office manager Becky Burfeind (pictured below) participated in a New York Blood Center blood drive (nybloodcenter.org) at their church. While Peter donated blood, Becky helped by hanging signs around town and checking in blood donors.
Becky’s daughter is a survivor of Congenital Heart Disease and the whole family is involved with the NY Chapter of the Children’s Heart Foundation. As blood transfusions are common with heart surgery, this was a great way to give back to the community.
